Boeing Explorer Rocket Group, Post 526

The explorer post volunteered to help out on Good Neighbor Day by joining the LA River cleanup crew at Balboa Park.

Here is our entire group, assembled before we began the cleanup & wearing Boeing volunteer t-shirts. Click on the thumbnail picture for a 640x480 pixel image, and click here for an even larger image.

Left: Soon after getting started, we passed beneath Balboa Blvd. Right: Notice the plastic bag hanging in the tree. Most of the trash collected by us was from the branches of the willows growing along the river. Gathering the trash was oddly like picking fruit from the trees.

Ernie Acosta says, "Put that camera in here, Bob, and get to work with the rest of us!"

As we filled bags with trash, we tied them closed and hauled them up the bank of the river. Later, we walked picked up the bags and hauled them up to the starting point, where a large dumpster was waiting for them. Left: Ernie Acosta. Right: Jason.

After collecting trash for 3 hours, we were pooped out! Right: Here we are getting a rest and enjoying some ice cold water provided by Boeing.
